Our History in Upper Sandusky

Star Players was established in 1977 whan a group of local residents interested in community theatre came together. Ralph Young was elected the first president. During the first ten years, most of the tech work was done by Jim Shoenberger. The first dimmer board that the theatre utilized was built by Shoenberger himself. He also built many of the lights on stage out of tin cans.

In 1982, Star Kids was started by Ruth Bacon to help increase interest in theatre among area youth. Star Kids has become one of the longest standing and most popular program the theatre offers.

In 1987, the theatre was remodeled and the old seats all replaced with the current seats.

In 1992, a new light board was purchased and took the theatre from a 6 to an 18 channel board.

In the early 1990's the Star Players purchased the theatre from Jeff and Joy Roth with the help of a donation from Katherine Artz.

In 2008, the Star Players, Inc. pourchased the original theatre entrance off of Wyandot Avenue, with future plans to restore it as it was in the past.

In 2009, a thrust was rebuilt and improved to be safer and accomodate larger casts and sets. The roof of the theatre was also replaced in 2009.

The theatre has now begun showing movies again one regular basis. The group payed off the building, replaced the furnace, remodeled the basement, and replaced the Grand Curtain.

Many people have contributed to make the Star Theatre what is is today. We thank you all!
