The Star Players in Upper Sandusky Ohio are proud to announce Annie as their summer 2017 musical. The Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, and Martin Charnin production is based on the original comic strip Little Orphan Annie. This family friendly production features such songs as “Tomorrow”, “Hard Knock Life”, and “Easy Street”. It has inspired two major motion pictures of the same name, although neither production follows the same story as the stage musical. The production will be staged June 23rd-25th and June 30th-July 2nd at the Star Theatre in Upper Sandusky. It will be directed by Vicki McClurkin, with Matthew J. Armstrong as Music Director and Timothy Sherman as Choreographer.

The Players will be holding auditions for the production at the end of April. All auditions will take place at the Star Theatre at 121 West Wyandot Ave in Upper Sandusky. Everyone attending auditions should bring a schedule of possible conflicts with them to provide to the directing staff.

Girls 6-12 years of age are invited to attend child auditions on April 24th at 7pm. All girls must come prepared to sing 90 seconds of a song of their choice; however, the song can not be from Annie. Girls should wear comfortable clothes and secure shoes to participate in a dance audition and may be asked to read from a script. Approximately 7 girls will be cast as Annie and her fellow orphans.

Auditions for adult roles will be held on April 25th at 7pm and are open to those currently attending high school and older. Many lead, character, and chorus roles are available. Those auditioning for adult roles must also bring 90 seconds of a prepared song not from the musical and be prepared to participate in a dance audition. Many will be asked to read for roles as well.

Callbacks for all those being considered for major roles will be held on Thursday, April 27th at 7pm. Those who have been cast will be notified over the weekend. Rehearsals will begin on May 1st and will be held 3-4 nights a week. You may be asked to attend more or less rehearsals each week depending on your role.

A canine audition will be held on May 1st at 6pm to fill the role of Sandy. Large breeds are preferred and the dog must be able to walk across the stage without a trainer, be able to be trained to stop on a mark, and interact well with young children.
